‎”The random attacks on websites are really the contemporary version of writing a political slogan on a wall,”

‎”The software” was something called low orbit ion cannon (LOIC), and it meant that anyone with a few clicks of a mouse could become a “hacker”, or at least a website attacker. Computers all over the world started sending packets of information to the PayPal and Visa websites, flooding its servers with a DDoS attack (distributed denial of service)

“But if you hurt the internet, be careful, because the internet may well hurt you back.”

‎”the emergence of a new kind of identity, and with it a new form of identity politics. Traditional politics caters to fixed demographics, requires that participants have continuity of identity, can be located in geography. These are things that can be dispensed [with] online, and have been, with great effect.”

the “hivemind”, or getting people to “believe in the power” of the hivemind, is probably Anonymous’s greatest achievement. There is no central organisation (though there are organisers) and no official membership. In some ways it resembles that other recent un-organisation, al-Qaida. If you believe in Anonymous, and call yourself Anonymous, you are Anonymous.

“And then there’s the slang. Everyone is a fag: there are newfags (newcomers) and oldfags (old-timers) and fagfags (homosexuals) and moralfags (those perceived as taking the moral high ground).”

Il collettivo femminista russo, che rischiano il carcere per aver cantato una canzone ANTI-PUTIN

as a part of a protest movement against re-election of Vladimir Putin, three women from the group came to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow, crossed themselves, bowed to the altar, and began to perform a song

In the song, the group asked the “Theotokos” (Mother of God, i.e. the Virgin Mary) (rus. Богородица Bogoroditsa) to “drive Putin away”. The song also describes the Russian Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow as someone who believes in Putin rather than in God. Kirill showed open support for Putin as a candidate before the presidential election

The punk band are accused of hooliganism on the grounds of religious hatred after they performed a song mocking the Russian President on the altar of an Orthodox cathedral.

Amnesty International has condemned the Russian authorities’ treatment of Maria Alekhina, Ekaterina Samutsevich and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who face up to seven years in prison.

Pussy Riot have received support from the likes of Madonna, Sting and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Kate Nash has also backed the group, encouraging fans to make ‘Free Pussy Riot’ posters

“It’s appalling that the musicians from Pussy Riot could face prison sentences of up to seven years in jail,” Sting stated, noting that dissent is a legitimate and essential right in any democracy, and that modern politicians have to tolerate this fact.
